A message to the class of 2020

Every generation has a defining moment, a collective experience that will leave an unforgettable mark on each member. It becomes part of the fabric that defines who you are and ties you together in ways that lasts a lifetime. This is our moment. And it’s unlike any we’ve seen before.

We knew this year wouldn’t be easy, but I don’t think any of us could’ve prepared for this. Our last moments of uni have come to an unfortunate end. Without realising it, many of us have already spent our last moments at the university campus. The virus cancelled the rest of our final year but that doesn’t define us, we are who we are not because of what happens to us but because of how we respond. Because we are the class of 2020. We don’t hide in the face of adversity, we don’t back down from our struggles and we keep our head high no matter how hard it may seem. Don’t forget about the experiences that have brought us to this moment. The hardships, the memories, the laughs. We don’t know what the future holds, but we know that whatever it is, we’ll do it together. We are so proud of our fellow graduating students and we are forever bonded as the class of 2020. We’re all facing our own challenges. As a generation, as a community and as a planet. But I know we can overcome them. We showed the world what it means to be creative, resourceful and resilient. We all lost out on a proper graduation. We’re sad everyday that we didn’t get to say goodbye to our classmates. But I hope this is a reminder that when you get knocked down, you get up stronger. So class of 2020, let’s celebrate ourselves to getting to this moment and thank the people who helped us.
